Bio.

Wanying Ling (凌宛莹) ORCID logo is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Hong Kong.

My research investigates how work and family life shape people's health. More specifically, my work focuses on three areas: (1) Working time and job quality: I study working-time mismatch and non-standard work arrangements in contemporary labor markets and their implications for workers’ health and wellbeing. (2) Household wealth: I examine how different forms of wealth and liabilities shape family formation and, in turn, the health and wellbeing of individuals and families. (3) Multidimensional measures of health: I use a broad set of health indicators to trace how health inequalities emerge and accumulate over the life course.

Methodologically, I primarily employ quantitative and computational methods to analyze large-scale survey and administrative data. I also conduct exploratory work on computational approaches to better understand the complex mechanisms underlying work, family, and health.

My recent research interests include: working time mismatch; time use and sequence analysis; generative AI in the social sciences.
